Madison, Wis. - John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Larry Buckley, 35, Madison, Wis., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge William Conley to 14 years in prison for distributing heroin. Buckley pleaded guilty to this charge on September 28, 2011.

Between June and August 2010, an individual cooperating with law enforcement bought heroin from Buckley at different locations in Dane County.

At sentencing, the government argued that Buckley's prior state convictions for felony battery, intimidation of a victim, escape, aggravated battery by use of a dangerous weapon, and felon-in-possession of a firearm called for a lengthy prison term. Judge Conley agreed and stated that there was little reason to believe that Buckley would be a contributing member of society so long as he chose to commit crimes instead of finishing his education or finding steady employment.

The charges against Buckley were the result of an investigation conducted by the Dane County Narcotics and Gang Task Force. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul W. Connell.
